Chapter 13:  To cover Chapter 13, I want each of you to be the pro on a particular topic in the chapter.  You are welcome to check out a source other than your text to present to the class.  Don’t try to cover everything in your section as you comment to the class.  Highlight a finding, a study, a conclusion, a method, something unexpected, a concern you have when reading the material….

Evolutionary Clinical Psychology (412-416)

  1. What is meant by mechanism failure?  What characterizes it?
  2. Examples of dysfunction from a divergence from the EEA.
  3. How could dysfunctions have been functional:  eg, phobia, anxiety, depression?

 

Evolutionary Cultural Psychology (416-422)

  1. Relation between environment and cultural differences?  Eg, food sharing- egalitarian societies.
  2. How can culture be transmitted?  Buss does not use the word Meme, but what is that?
  3. Evolution of Art, Music, Movies, Fiction?  Relate to Miller’s mate attraction hypothesis.
  4. Relate to Pinker’s comments about by-products (spandrels).
