General Issues:

Let us know today if you have any special dietary requirements or preferences.

Petty theft is common in Quito with pickpockets and the like definitely a concern, so it is important to keep your valuables safe when we are in town shopping and sightseeing. Money belts are one suggestion. We advise leaving jewelry at home. Be sure to keep your passport secure and easy to get to at all times.

Be careful what you eat and drink. The meals we take as a group should be fine, but avoid drinking water or beverages with ice unless you check with us. Also, be careful with salads, uncooked fruits and vegetables that have been washed and so on.

Stay with the group. Particularly in the forest it is important to stay on the trail and stay with our guide. Don’t take off into the forest alone and get permission if you wish to leave the lodge area without a guide.

Check with guides for advice on when insect repellent is needed. Chiggers are present in some areas.

No sharps or anything else that might be viewed as a weapon in your carry-on luggage

No drugs: don’t bring any and don’t buy any. Drug penalties are severe in Ecuador and we can’t help you out of an Ecuadorian jail!!!! UNCW International Programs advises that UNCW students should apply North Carolina drinking laws when they travel abroad.

Use common sense!
