Final Reflective Essay for HON 110-302

Fall 2008

Honors freshman seminar is designed to introduce you to academic life and the honors curriculum.   Consider what we have covered (university life, the life of the mind, the nature of a seminar class, introduction to academic discourse-oral and written-, study habits/time management, civic engagement, newspaper reading, cultural exposure, and various aspects of our theme), and describe what you think about the importance of a university education and experience.  Include specific references to assigned readings from this semester, and thoughts on our numerous HON 110 experiences.

---In your essay, you will want to review the items in your portfolio first and use them to help you reflect on the semester and this prompt.  In your final essay, you may want to include references to readings such as:  Oxford Stamp, any of the time management readings, civic engagement readings, critical thinking readings, Never Let Me Go, Mountains Beyond Mountains.  You may want to comment on workshops or speakers.  You may want to comment on New York Times.  Be sure to consider the readings related to our theme and your Express Yourself essays.  You may want to comment on your cultural and service activities, and on your interactions with your Link.  You could also include aspects of community-building in Honors and other honors experiences (classes, travel, book groups, speakers, teas, etc). When referencing readings, be sure to use citations and references in the text.  If you must quote a section from a reading, you must use page numbers to attribute the quote; I would rather you did not quote.
