Course Description:
Basic computer concepts for non-CSC majors including elements of
computing systems and organization; computer communications including the
Internet; applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, data base
management, and the rudiments of programming in a current programming language;
social and technical issues including legal, ethical, and security
considerations.
Special Needs:
If you have a disability
and need reasonable accommodation in this course, you should inform the instructor

possible. If you have not already done

(ext. 3746) and obtain a copy of your Accommodation Letter. You should then meet with your instructor to

Requirements

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2007 or
newer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access - the Standard Edition does not have
Access). You
cannot use an earlier version of Microsoft Office as the new version is
significantly different.

Reliable access to the Internet.
Expectations:
·
You will take an active role in your learning of the
material.
·
You will acquire missed work from another student.
·
You will submit assignments on time. Late assignments may be downgraded 10% per
day late.
Grade Calculation:
Unit Tests (35%)
· There will be three tests including the final.
· No makeups without prior discussion!!
· You must be in class to take the tests.
·

Chapter
Quizzes (10%)
·
There will be 14
un-timed, open book tests.
·
They will be found in
Blackboard under “Assessments”.
Assignments (5%)
· There will be 14 brief written assignments.
·
These will be found
in Blackboard under "Assignments".
·
There are no wrong answers,
but you must state an opinion and defend it!! Five sentence minimum.
Skills
Tests (25%)
· There will be tests on each of the Microsoft Office skills covered: Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· They will be administered in SimNet.
· You must be in class for these tests.
Projects (15%)
· There will be projects for each of the Microsoft Office Applications.

The instructor reserves the right to
increase or decrease the number of graded activities.

Grades will be based on the following scale:
93-100 A
90-92 A-
