Required materials:

Dans le vent, Holt, Reinhardt and Winston, 1999 (4th edition)

Course requirements:

Foreword: this course will be built around our textbook and letters that Sophie, a French student in Toulouse, will send to us all semester long. Sophie’s letters will allow us to expand our vocabulary and our knowledge of French culture and society. It will be a unique opportunity for us to see what it is like to be a young French woman pursuing her studies in Toulouse, just as you are pursuing your own, here at Wilmington.

-         An active and informed participation is crucial in this course. Readings, written and oral exercises will be assigned regularly and will be regarded as homework, in preparation for class. Vocabulary quizzes will also be given frequently. No more than two absences are allowed in the semester. Were you to miss class more than two times, your final grade will immensely suffer.

-         Partiels. There will be 2 tests that will cover material seen in the first and second half of the semester respectively.

-         The final exam will consist of an oral interview and a role play.

-         Group projects. The first project will require that you design a vacation in Wilmington for our pen-pal, Sophie. It is to be delivered orally to the whole class, either as a powerpoint presentation or, more traditionally, with a poster, or a flier. For our second project (a class project), we will make up a “journal télévisé” and record ourselves.
