As you look at the picture think about how the details of the image are arranged in visual space and consider different ways of framing the image.

In-class exercise

Please see instructions on page 128 #1 under "respond" in Picturing Texts

Create two new images with your "view finder."  Use a pencil or pen to draw a square around the two new images you create from the photo.

Describe your two new images using design elements such as composition, selection, and emphasis.  Answer these questions:

  • Why did you select (selection) the new images?
  • What are you emphasizing (emphasis) in your new images
