Thru this note I am requesting release time during Spring 96 semester. I plan to use the time to develop course material for a new course in ``Artificial Intelligence''. At present there is no course in our program that covers topics in Artificial Intelligence, especially logic and symbolic programming, which is an important field of study within Computer Science. A course on Artificial Intelligence is a standard component of all computer science programs today.
The proposed course in Artificial Intelligence will cover topics in:
I plan to design the course on a pattern similar to Artificial Intelligence course offered by Duke University, which I participated in during Fall 94 semester. Some initial course development effort has convinced me that this course will require first order logic as a prerequisite. Students in computer science are taught first order logic in discrete mathematics course.
I expect that the new course will be ready for first offering to computer science students at UNCW starting from Spring 97 semester.
