Current Research
- I
specialize in investigating sub-surface features, both submarine and
terrestrial, using a variety of geophysical instruments including
seismic and multibeam bathymetry systems along with, gravimeters,
magnetometers, downhole logging and ground penetrating radar. Recent
projects include:
- Ground penetrating radar investigation of the pyroclastic deposits from the 1815 eruption of Tambora, Indonesia. Portions of this 2004 expedition are included in the Discovery Channel documentary film entitled "Year without Summer" or " Pompeii of the East"
- High-resolution seismic and
sidescan sonar mapping of shallow water submarine faults and benthic
habitats to help constrain both seismogenic and tsunamogenic potential
and type and extent of benthic habitats of coastal Puerto Rico.
- Tectonic,
volcanic and sedimentary history of the Caribbean basin
and western Pacific from multichannel seismic investigations and
deep-sea scientific drilling.
