Students in this course will be required to:

 

1.         Observe a child in various settings

2.         Review available records maintaining confidentiality

3.         Talk with teachers and other personnel involved

4.         Administer formal and/or informal tests as appropriate

5.         Prepare and teach lessons in relevant skills

6.         Prepare and teach lessons incorporating peer tutoring or small group work

7.         Prepare and teach standard or adapted curriculum lessons

8.         Write an IEP aligned with standard or adapted curriculum

9.         Write a brief letter to parents summarizing results

10.       Conduct a parent conference

11.       Write a clinical teaching report including the following information:

 

 

 

           

Descriptive data: name, date, birthdate, age, grade

Background: medical, family, educational, referral to special services, interventions

Observations: description of child, behavior, social-emotional concerns

Setting: tutoring location, materials, personnel, children

Diagnostic information: test results, summary, conclusions, recommendations

Lessons:  goals, objectives, strategies, activities, materials, evaluation

Critique of lessons: relevance, performance, behavior

Future Lessons: suggestions for improvement, modifications, future directions

Summary:  Results of all student products and assessments

Conclusions: analysis and synthesis of all data, reflections of student progress

Recommendations: referral, pre-referral interventions, services, instruction Recommendations for parents: suggestions for services, resources, intervention

Appendix: lesson plans, future plans, IEP, test data, sample work
